it might spark some pregnancy rumors.

no matter how many months out from the big day you are...

one year out + from the wedding

  • Find the skincare routine from our guide (or from an esthetician) that best fits your needs, and follow it to a T. Be diligent with it morning and night, even when you’re feeling a little drunk and lazy.
  • If you’re toying with the idea of injectables or procedures, consult a dermatologist as early as possible. Remember: some treatments require a little bit of downtime. Plus, things like filler and botox fade at different rates for each person, so you need to test out how long they last to help plan out your skincare timeline.
  • Visit an esthetician once every 4-6 weeks for a facial to keep your skin renewed, and to address any specific concerns you might have.

3-6 months out from the wedding

  • This is your last chance to test out anything new like filler or botox, so if you think you might want them, now is the time. Make sure you love the way they make you look- if not, botox can fade within 3 months and filler can be dissolved (if it’s hyaluronic acid based!), so you’re still in the safe zone.

one month out from the wedding

  • Continue following the routine you’ve been using, and Do. Not. Try. Anything. New. The last month of being engaged is not the time to experiment with a new treatment or product. If you want to add something into the routine, do it a few months out so you have time to fix any adverse reactions you could have (think irritation, reactions, or breakouts).
  • This includes eyelash extensions, spray tans, microdermabrasion, and that sheet mask you’ve had in your bathroom for years. Unless you’ve tried it already in the past, don’t add it in now.
  • If you’re sold on botox or filler and want it for the wedding, schedule your final appointments now. Botox will take about 2 weeks to set in, so you’ll still have time to go back to the injector for tweaks if necessary.

two weeks out from the wedding

  • Be gentle with your skin and utilize hydrating and calming products (that you’ve been using for the last month, at least). Continue following your routine and make sure you’re drinking enough water!
  • If you’ve been getting facials, try to squeeze in one more for an extra boost of hydration.

the week of the wedding

  • You can get a facial up to 2 days prior to the wedding day, as long as your esthetician knows to be gentle (no extractions!).
  • If you have gotten dermaplaning facials in the past, this is a great thing to do a couple days before your wedding.
  • If you are not getting a facial the week of your wedding: Use a light enzyme exfoliant like Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant to remove dead skin on the surface of your face (remember: NO fruit pits! Manual exfoliants are not your friend). This will help your skin appear healthier and more radiant, and will let your makeup glide on like butter (yes, this is the only time being called a butterface is a compliment).
  • Apply the exfoliant 2-3 times throughout the week while you’re in the shower. The steam will help open your pores and activate enzymes. Apply it in light, circular motions and leave it on for 5-7 minutes. After you rinse it off, you’ll be left with a supple and youthful glow.
  • Don’t stress about any imperfections that pop up. Assuming you’ve done your research and found the right one, your makeup artist will be somewhat of a miracle worker. They will be able to hide the bump or two that pops up from last-minute stress or a little extra wine. Just stick with your tried and true routine, and don’t panic.

go time (also known as the big day)

  • First things first: get excited- you’re getting married today! Then, follow the same morning routine you’ve been following for the last month. Make sure you apply moisturizer as soon as you get out of the shower, since your pores are still open and it can really sink in.
  • Use a lip scrub to remove dead skin and routinely apply a lip serum or chapstick throughout the day (your future spouse doesn’t want to kiss dry, wilted lips! Plus, it’ll keep your lip color from looking cakey).
  • Apply a sheet mask to your face, lip, or under eye with your bridal party while you’re waiting to get your hair/makeup done (assuming you’ve used the specific mask before). The masks will provide a final bump of hydration, and can even help reduce Rehearsal Dinner drink-induced puffiness if you pop them in the fridge overnight. Plus, they’ll create some priceless photo ops.
  • Lastly, give up control and let your makeup artist do their thing. They will take care of any final skin prep you might need, so just sit back, relax, and get ready to say I Do.
