YOUR BRIDAL MAKEUP

TO DETERMINE YOUR LOOK, YOU SHOULD START WITH YOUR TYPICAL MAKEUP ROUTINE AND IMAGINE KICKING IT UP A NOTCH-

YOU SHOULD BE AIMING TO LOOK LIKE YOURSELF, ONLY BETTER.

GENERAL RULES OF THUMB

If you’re not used to wearing much, try to go a little out of your comfort zone with your eyes, lip color and blush. These three spots are the best to highlight so you don’t look washed out in pictures and end up looking back on images of Casper the Friendly Bride. It might be helpful to show your makeup artist some of your photographer’s work to give them a sense of his/her editing style and lighting.

CREATING YOUR EXACT WEDDING LOOK SHOULD BE A COLLABORATIVE EXPERIENCE BETWEEN YOU AND YOUR MAKEUP ARTIST.

THE CAMERA TYPICALLY TONES DOWN MAKEUP...

Once you’re able to articulate the general style you’re going for...

SO YOU SHOULD DO A LITTLE MORE THAN YOU'RE USED TO WEARING TO ENSURE IT TRANSLATES IN PHOTOS

Your artist will be able to provide insight into what they think will look best on you, but don't forget that you know your personal style best.

If you’ve been wearing eyeliner in your waterline every single day for the last 15 years, but your artist doesn’t utilize any liner at all, it’s okay to speak up and ask for what you want. It’s important to trust your artist’s vision and to let them show you what they recommend, but at the end of the day, you need to love the way you look and feel confident.

Another crucial time to speak up is if you have any allergies or sensitivities to makeup or ingredients.

Make sure your artist is aware of any products that you- or anyone in your bridal party- have had an adverse reaction to so they can adjust their makeup bag accordingly. When in doubt, ask to use your own products. If every mascara you’ve ever tried has given you a giant, oozing sty except for the one you have at home, it’s totally fine to ask your artist to use yours and save yourself from a crust-filled first morning on the honeymoon. Your artist’s number one priority is comfort, so speak up!

When it comes to your wedding day makeup, it's important to focus on a few key elements

FALSE LASHES

If you read that header and immediately thought “is it even possible to get false lashes
without looking like a Real Housewife?”, the answer is a resounding yes. There are a few different options based on your end goal.

What about Airbrush makeup?

Foundation Fundamentals

Be sure to speak up about how much coverage (if any) you are used to wearing, as doing the same thing on your wedding day will help you still feel and look like yourself, just amped up a bit. For reference, “full coverage” means applying a more opaque foundation. This means none or very little of your natural skin will show through. “Medium coverage” means applying foundation that mostly covers, but some skin breathes and shows through. “Light coverage” can mean a super sheer layer of foundation, or only covering the necessities and nothing more- if you’ve got a face full of beautiful freckles and you want them to show, this is the option for you.

If you’ve heard about airbrush makeup, consider yourself lucky because it is God’s gift to skin texture. Airbrush foundation reflects light in a way that blurs the skin, so even the lightest layer of it makes you look naturally perfect. It’s also incredibly waterproof, meaning your skin will look just like it did when you first walked down the aisle even after sweaty dancing to your favorite throwback songs all night. If you have naturally oily skin or are getting married in the warmer months, we cannot recommend airbrush makeup enough.
We know- it sounds too good to be true. Don’t worry, there’s a catch (isn’t there always?). While airbrush makeup can be a godsend for some, it does have a tendency to settle into lines and wrinkles, meaning it might not be best for ladies with more mature skin. It can also sit on top of dead skin and dry patches, so skin needs to be properly prepped with exfoliants and moisturizers ahead of time. If you’re interested in airbrush makeup, let your makeup artist know so they can assess your skin and let you know if it is the right option for you.

Lash growth serums do wonders to condition and grow lashes, meaning you can get long, voluminous, healthy lashes au natural. It can take about 2 weeks to really see results, so stay diligent with applying the serum along the lash line every night (if your eyes become sensitive, reduce the application to minimize irritation). We love Revitalash- it can even do double duty on your brows to fill in any holes or sparsity.

LASH GROWTH serums

These are perfect if you just want to amp up your natural beauty. They’re incredibly comfortable, and you don’t have to worry about an entire strip of fake lashes falling off your eye mid-vows and scaring away your soon-to-be spouse. Your makeup artist can apply just a few to the outer corners for a little extra boost, or can apply a full set in the right contour to give the illusion of an eye lift exactly where you need it.

INDIVIDUAL LASHES

A lash lift is a great, low maintenance treatment that can be done prior to the wedding to enhance your natural lashes and eye shape. It can be paired with individual or strip lashes on the day of to really make your eyes pop.

LASH LIFT

Looking for drama? These are for you. Besides giving you longer, darker lashes, they also give the illusion of a little eyeliner at the base of the lash line. While they may feel uncomfortable when first applied, you won’t even realize you’re wearing them after about an hour (once the glue dries). Strip lashes come in different shapes and sizes, so your makeup artist can find the perfect ones for your unique eye shape.

STRIP LASHES

If you’re looking for a semi-permanent option, lash extensions are a great choice, especially if you are going on your honeymoon right after the wedding. You’ll wake up every day looking absolutely flawless without a drop of makeup. During your trial, talk to your makeup artist about whether or not they think extensions will create the right look- keep in mind, they may need to apply mascara to the extensions on the big day, which may affect how long the extensions last.
